Since our 45th Reunion we have lost several of our favorite classmates:  Bunny Moore, Steve Lawrence, Ronnie Cloud, Key Welch, Bill Rice, and Jack Josey.

Bunny was at our 45th Reunion.  On the right is a picture of him at the 45th Reunion, Friday night event at Felix's Mexican Restaurant.  We don't have recent pictures of the other classmates.  Bunny was a car collector and brought his 1957 red Chevy Convertible to the 45 Reunion Saturday Picnic at Lamar.
Bunny  drove up in his Chevy and pretty soon a crowd gathered.  Front and back views of the car and Bnny are below.

Classmate Finders Committee Meeting

On June 7, 2006, Sally Henderson Yates met with her committee to start planning for our 50th Reunion in 2010.  The turnout wasn't as good as expected since Bunny Moore's funeral was held  that day at about the same time.  Sally did a great job of putting together a class list for the 45th Reunion, and she has agreed to do so again for the 50th Reunion.  The lunch meeting was held at the Serenitea Tea Room on the Southwest Freeway.  Here are some pictures taken at the meeting.

Here is the Mailing Committee on May 15, 2005, after completing folding, stuffing, addressing, and stamping those red envelopes containing the invitations to the 45th reunion, October 28 -30, 2005.

Left to right top row: Pam Ballard, Chair Babs McNeir, Left to right bottom row:   Catherine Compton, Kay Dunlap Henderson and Sally Henderson Yates.  Not pictured but there and working, Marilyn Ralls Johnson, Deanna Schiro Stubbs and her hubby, J. E. Stubbs.

Reunion Committee members are Nelson and Alice Bell Smith, Larry Stewart, Dene Hofheinz Anton, Liz Mobley Wayne, Margaret Deats Bott, Joan Hall Parker, Becky Chatham, Judy Pence Jordan, Georgia Reynolds White, Dale Beneke, Sally Henderson Yates, Marilyn Ralls Johnson, and Chair Barbara McNeir.  The Committee met several times to plan the 45th reunion weekend.

The first Big Red Run on October 30, 2004, was fun and successful.  Almost twice as many runners as expected turned out.  Lamar High School Alumni Association, Inc., Executive Director Fran Callahan says it should be even better next year.

At least two of our classmates attended.  Pictured are (l to r) Jan LaMaster Redford (1960), her husband, David Redford (1958) 2004-2005 President of the Board of the Lamar High School Alumni Association, Inc. (LHSAA), and Marilyn Ralls Johnson (1960).  David announced the race winners and handed out awards.  He also ran the 5K race in a credible time for his age group.

Marilyn Ralls Johnson just completed a three year term as the Recording Secretary of the LHSAA Board, and she says that LHSAA is the way to bring together the generations of Lamar graduates.  Visit their web site Lamar Alumni Central for more about LHSAA.

The buzz is all about the Lamar High School Alumni Association, Inc.'s Tommy Tune Event benefiting the Lamar Auditorium and celebrating Ruth Denney's 90th birthday.  It was a great evening with our own Bob Foxworth as MC.  Shortly after appearing for the Lamar Auditorium, Bob's father died here in Houston.

If you missed the show, you can buy a video tape of the interviews which included Bob, Tommy Tune and Jaclyn Smith from LHSAA for $20.00.

Pictured at left is Bob Foxworth, handling the Master of Ceremonies job for the Lamar Auditorium Renovation Benefit.

On the right, Bob is shown talking to Lamar Principal, James McSwain late in 2002.  On this occasion, he was the guest of the Lamar High School Alumni Association, Inc. (LHSAA) for lunch at River Oaks Country Club.

The main topic for discussion was the Lamar Auditorium renovation.  Bob expressed an interest in helping LHSAA raise funds for the "extras" that HISD was unable to provide for the Lamar Auditorium.  His participation in the benefit was greatly appreciated.

After the lunch, Bob commented that it was his first conversation with a high school principal that didn't involve discipline.

Among those present at the luncheon - (l to r) Jim Bernhard, (class of 1955) TUTS, Marilyn Ralls Johnson (class of 1960) LHSAA Board Secretary, the host John Adkins (class of 1970), LHSAA Board President, pictured below with Bob.

Two of our classmates were underwriters of LHSAA's 2003 Distinguished Alumni Luncheon honoring Lamar's Harris County District Attorneys, Carol S. Vance (1951), John B. "Johnny" Holmes, Jr. (1959), and Charles "Chuck" Rosenthal (1963).

Pictured are former Judge Richard Hall and Marilyn Ralls Johnson,  from the class of 1960, (front row), and behind them, Carol Vance (on the left) and Lamar Principal James McSwain on the right.

Harris Publishing published a 2005 directory of all Lamar alumni as a hardcover Directory and a CD.  LHSAA is sponsoring the directory. Click here for more information.

Betty Braly, Class of '52 and Charter Member of the Choralettes, still wants former Choralettes to contact her regarding the Choralettes project for the new Music Library at Lamar.  She is much further along and wants to do a program with the Choralettes next Spring.  Call her at 713-774-9820,  or write her at 7027 Triola, Houston, Texas  77074.

Tommy Dickey's picture was in a recent newsletter sent to State Rep. Martha Wong's constituency.  He has been lobbying for underground utilities in the Upper Kirby Management District and was present when Gov. Rick Perry signed House Bill 3578 allowing utility lines to be buried along Kirby Drive and changing the name of the Upper Kirby Management District to the Harris County Improvement District #3.

Larry Stewart reports that he has retired from the Navy, has moved to College Station, Texas, and has been on an African safari.  He also sent in some good pictures for our Remember When page.

We need pictures and printed memorabilia from our days at Lamar for a new "Remember When" web page.
